Ski Racing is modernizing

Jul 29, 2009

This September, the new Ski Racing will debut digitally. It will be bright, full of your favorite features and it will be far more environmentally sound. Plus, Ski Racing will capitalize on the many advances of modern communication.
Digital publishing fits with the sport’s philosophy of environmentally-responsible commerce. The digital editions of Ski Racing magazine will be produced by Texterity, Inc., a leading provider of digital publishing solutions. Featuring a high quality replica of the print style — but enhanced with audio, video, and advertiser links — Texterity’ s electronic editions can be enjoyed on computers, PDAs, iPhones and more.
Entering into its 42rd year of covering ski sport and 23rd year partnering with the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association as an option for its membership, Ski Racing is keeping pace with technology for its many subscribers worldwide.
“With Ski Racing’s young audience, virtually all of our readers are using computers and cell phones to communicate,” said Gary Black, Jr., Managing Partner. “It is important that the publication move in the direction its readership is going.”
“We were excited when Ski Racing came to USSA with this concept as it fits into our long range plans for our membership,” said Bill Marolt, President and CEO of USSA.
The new delivery will offer readers the ability to archive both pictures and articles as well as give readers the ability to use major social networking programs from within the magazine software. In addition, Ski Racing editors will be incorporating video, slideshows and audio into the digital publication.
“It’s just in time for the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games,” said Sarah Tuff, Ski Racing Editor-in-Chief. “We’re looking forward to sharing the Games — as well as the rest of ski competition — with the world on a whole different, interactive and innovative level.”
The new format also opens new channels of communication among advertisers, readers and the ski racing world. “Using Texterity’s software allows advertisers many more opportunities,” Black added. “They will be able to utilize audio, video, slide shows and will be included in a massive search engine process.”
Ski Racing will publish 12 issues this season, three of which will also be printed and mailed to both subscribers and USSA members. The print issues will be: Issue 1, the Buyers guide; Issue 3, the Olympic and Team preview; and Issue 10, the Olympic Wrap up.

Ski Racing’s  web page, skiracing.com, already the sport’s most sought after source for ski competition news, will continue to bring up to the minute stories and results from around the globe in addition to observations from a staff of experts.
Look out for the new digital Ski Racing to debut in September.
