Gorgone is off to a great start this season after taking second at a World Cup event in Arosa, Switzerland in late December.

“She’s been riding some really nice parallel slalom. She’s being smart about it and knowing where she can be fast on the course and where she needs to think,” U.S. Snowboarding Alpine Head Coach Steven Persons says.

The men’s race was taken by Swiss Simon Schoch, followed by Slovenians Rok Flander and Zan Kosir in second and third respectively.

Americans Joshua Wylie (14th) and Tyler Jewell (18th) cracked the top 20 to claim some valuable, early season World Cup points. The result was Wylie’s career best World Cup finish.

“It was his first final and this is great for [Wylie]. It was a difficult and tight slalom and he liked the riding. He stepped up and had two really good races in the final. He almost moved on,” Persons said. “It is going to build on his confidence. It fires him up and gets him rolling.”

The American boarders now turn their focus to the World Championships in Korea Jan. 18-24.
