In episode 24 of the Skiing is Believing podcast, Matt and Alan welcomed two of the Stifel US Ski Team’s finest downhill and super-G racers, Jared Goldberg and Jacqueline Wiles.

Both racers expressed their positivity towards the end of last season when they both skied in Saalbach’s FIS World Cup finals, Goldberg in Super-G and Wiles in Downhill.

In the same week that Salt Lake City was chosen to host the 2034 Winter Olympics, Goldberg, a top alpine racer from Utah, expressed the strong position of ski racing in the USA and his aspirations for greater success in the upcoming season.

Wiles discussed the special connection she holds with the Olympia slope in Cortina d’Ampezzo, where she secured two World Cup podium finishes. This location will host the women’s events for the 2026 Winter Olympics.

Goldberg also reminisced about his successful races on Italian snow, with four of his six World Cup top-ten results coming on the classic Saslong course of Val Gardena.

Matt and Alan asked the two what their hopes are for the upcoming season, and they both shared their keen ambitions to improve on their personal bests while being consistent throughout the season.

Although it is a World Championship year, several racers, such as Goldberg and Wiles, are aiming for consistency across the entire season instead of focusing solely on achieving a single outstanding result at the World Championships in Saalbach.

There is enhanced motivation to qualify for the 2025 FIS World Cup Finals for Stifel US Ski Team athletes, as it is being hosted on home snow in Sun Valley, Idaho.

Finally, Goldberg told us his motivation to start ski racing was fun and how young skiers “need to make sure skiing is the first love and racing is the second.” He continued, “This is the sort of mentality that all wannabe racers should possess.”
