The Audi FIS Ski World Cup Finals in 2016 will take place a week later than expected, from March 16-20 instead of the provisionally scheduled March 9-13. This decision was made in Zurich over the weekend by the International Ski Federation (FIS) at its annual autumn conference. The shift of the World Cup Finals by a week will avoid a conflict in the area with the Engadin Ski Marathon, the largest cross-country ski event in the Alps, which is set to take place on March 13, 2016.

The organizers of the World Cup Finals are very pleased with the scheduling decision as a simultaneous hosting of the Engadin Ski Marathon would have created significant logistical and organizational difficulties considering 11,000-13,000 cross-country skiers participate every year. The 2016 World Cup Finals in St. Moritz will serve as a test event for the 2017 World Ski Championships, so the skiing tracks, infrastructure, and plans will be analyzed and adapted to accommodate the following year’s event. Also decided at the FIS meeting was that the annual World Cup race in St. Moritz in the 2017-18 and 2018-19 seasons will be held in mid-December.
