The 2017 FIS Alpine World Ski Championship host St. Moritz held its final coordination group meeting before it hosts the 2016 Audi FIS Ski World Cup Finals in March, which will serve as the test event for the forthcoming championships.

With all eyes now on St. Moritz 2017, the team reported many milestones accomplished during the summer, including the completion of key construction projects and planning for World Cup Finals. It was the largest coordination group meeting yet, with a full complement representing the local organizing committee including the St. Moritz Town Council President and Mayor, FIS, EBU, Tridem Sports and Swiss-Ski in attendance. Many attendees made their way directly from the Soelden World Cup opener to Graubuenden for the meetings.

“You can sense that we are going full speed ahead,” said St. Moritz Organizing Committee President Hugo Wetzel. “Just by looking at the room full of people that are now involved with the implementation of not only the World Championships but also the very important test event and season finals, it is clear that we have reached the action phase.”

The test event, which is also the season final for the World Cup tour this year, will take place March 14-20, 2016 with men and women competing in all FIS alpine events at the venue.

“From the FIS perspective, we could observe huge strides taken since the spring,” said FIS Secretary General Sarah Lewis. “The planning is right on schedule in all areas with the finish area construction, marketing efforts and communication plans all coming together nicely. The Audi FIS Ski World Cup Finals will not only serve as a dress rehearsal for the Organising Committee, but it will also get the ski world excited about the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships in 2017.”

St. Moritz’s official website is fully operational and provides information for potential volunteers in addition to emerging details for international spectators, visitors and fans.
