Just days before the World Cup slalom in Levi, Finland, another Swiss skier has been injured. Marc Gini fell during Sunday’s slalom training in Sweden and injured his right knee.

On Monday, Gini flew back to Switzerland and was examined on Tuesday morning at the Balgrist University Hospital in Zurich. An MRI revealed a fracture of the right tibia plateau and a tear of the inner meniscus.

“He was lucky. Because the fracture is not displaced, it doesn’t have to be operated and it shouldn’t take too long to heal,” Swiss Ski doctor Walter O. Frey said.

However, a start in Levi is not in the cards for Gini at this time.

“That is very unfortunate. Levi would have been a good race to go in the top 30. The slopes are there always excellent,” Gini said. “Now I will unfortunately have no choice but to keep my fingers crossed for my teammates. I wish them all the best.”

If the healing progresses as planned, Gini should be back on skis and racing in January.
