Swiss Ski Team Soars: Stellar Athlete Selections for 2024/25 Season

Switzerland’s alpine ski team has been crushing the competition, claiming the title of the best team globally for two consecutive seasons. SwissSki and the dedicated efforts of their athletes and coaches are credited for this remarkable achievement.

Let’s delve into the recent squad selections for the 2024/25 season, a process led by Hans Flatscher, Director of Alpine Skiing, along with head coaches Beat Tschuor for women and Thomas Stauffer for men, and Werner Zurbuchen, head of young talent. Together, they named 111 athletes to represent Swiss Ski on the alpine slopes.

One standout in this selection is 22-year-old Franjo von Allmen, who made an impressive leap from the B squad to the prestigious Swiss Ski national team, showcasing Switzerland’s commitment to nurturing and promoting talent within its ranks.

What’s particularly noteworthy is the success trickling down to junior levels. Even at the European Cup, the second-highest level of competition, the Swiss Ski team has stood out with 36 podium finishes, earning five fixed continental cup spots for the upcoming World Cup season and ending the season victorious in the overall women’s EC competition.

These triumphs have directly influenced the squad compositions. The national team, previously consisting of 14 members, has now grown to 19 members. Talented individuals such as Camille Rast, Melanie Meillard, Arnaud Boisset, Marc Rochat, Thomas Tumler, and Franjo von Allmen have secured their spot on the roster of SwissSki’s most prestigious team.

2023/24 Swiss title haul

Swiss Ski’s athletes have showcased exceptional skills across disciplines, securing seven out of ten season titles. Marco Odermatt’s stellar performance is particularly noteworthy, as he clinched the Overall title and discipline titles in Giant Slalom (GS), Super-G (SG), and downhill (DH). Odermatt’s impressive four globes underline his dominance in the sport. Similarly, Lara Gut-Behrami’s dominance shone through as she claimed the overall title and discipline titles in GS and SG, earning three globes in total.

Moreover, as a combined team effort, the Swiss Ski athletes amassed the most points in Giant Slalom (GS) and Super-G (SG) disciplines, further underscoring their collective strength and skill.

Looking ahead to the winter 2024/25 season, Swiss Ski’s men’s squad comprises a total of 60 athletes across different tiers: national team, A squad, B squad, and C squad. Among them are seasoned champions and emerging talents, all poised to continue Switzerland’s alpine dominance on the global stage.

Similarly, the women’s squad boasts 51 athletes, including stalwarts like Jasmine Flury, Michelle Gisin, Gut-Behrami, and rising stars such as Meillard, Rast, and Corinne Suter.
