According to reports by the Associated Press and fisalpine.com, Swiss ski racer Lara Gut was suspended today (Dec. 16) by Swiss-Ski following comments she made to the media, criticizing Swiss head coach Mauro Pini.
Leaders of Swiss-Ski decided that Gut (19) will be pulled from the start lists of both World Cup races (GS and slalom) scheduled to take place in Semmering, Austria Dec. 28 and 29.
“We don’t accept that an athlete blames the head coach and expresses herself this way in public, and especially not in the media,” Dierk Biesel, the Swiss federation’s sports director told the AP.
According to the reports, Gut also ignored warnings from the federation concerning her wearing of official team uniforms.
Gut, who, at 17, won two World Championship silver medals here in Val d’Isere in 2009, regularly trains apart from the Swiss team with private coaches and training staff which includes her father Pauli Gut. She missed most of last year’s competitive season with a badly injured hip.
Gut criticized Pini, her former personal coach, in the Swiss newspaper Sonntagsblick on Sunday after he reportedly suggested she spend more time training withe the Swiss team skiers.
Gut will compete in super G, downhill and super combined World Cup races this weekend in Val d’Isere.
