After launching the SYNC Athlete Fund in July committing $50,000 to fund developing athletes in need, SYNC is proud to announce the final grant recipients for its inaugural season.
The funds awarded to athletes will offset training and competition costs for the most promising and deserving athletes in the sport to help fill the funding gap as they strive for the highest levels of competition.
“After announcing the initiative, applications poured in and over the course of two months amounted to over 100 submissions by the close of the application period.” said Kris Ochs, SYNC CFO and the Fund’s Program Director. “We are thrilled by the commitment and passion from all applicants who took the initiative, but it only validates the presence of financial obstacles that are all too common within our sport.”
SYNC Athlete Fund selects applicants based on three main factors: speed, financial need, and quality of responses to questions and letters of recommendation. After thorough review by the Fund’s Selection Committee, 25 athletes were identified who best meet the Fund’s criteria and would be most meaningfully impacted by support from the SYNC Athlete Fund
Ochs commented further, “Our grant recipients represent 25 outstanding members of the alpine skiing community who demonstrate extraordinary commitment and drive to succeed, but struggle to make it on their own. They come from teams and clubs all over the country and range from today’s champions to tomorrow’s, including current World Cup level athletes to rising U16 talents. We wish them the best, and are excited to watch them do great things this coming season and beyond.”
