Former U.S. Ski Team member AJ Ginnis, who made history as Greece’s first alpine World Cup podium finisher and World Championship medalist, has officially joined Marcel Hirscher’s VAN DEER-Red Bull Sports team in a bold move that marks the next chapter in his remarkable career.
AJ Ginnis leaves Fischer after nearly three decades and begins a new chapter ahead of the 2026 Olympics. After an early injury ended his 2024–25 season, the World Championship medalist prepares for a comeback with a new ski brand and coaching team.
“It’s worse than expected, and I need surgery,” AJ Ginnis told skinews.ch, confirming earlier reports of knee problems.
Ginnis has recently revamped his GreSki staff, adding new dynamics. The new head coach is Magnus Andersson, a Swede with a stellar record. Andersson previously found success with the Swedish men’s team and had a notable tenure as the Head US Women’s World Cup tech coach. Thomas Woolson, Ginnis's close friend from Green Mountain Valley School and Dartmouth College, is joining the team. Andersson has also recruited Slovenian ski technician Primoz Finzgar to join the team.

AJ Ginnis, a former US Ski Team member, has found success since starting to ski for his native country of Greece. Last season, he won the men's slalom silver at the 2023 World Championship.
