FIS stressed that the tragedy underscores the risks of alpine skiing while reaffirming its commitment to athlete wellbeing, safety innovation, and collective responsibility across the global ski community.
Family, friends, and the ski community will have the opportunity to pay their final respects to Matteo Franzoso at the Hogar de Cristo Funeral Agency in Independencia. The wake will be open from Wednesday, September 17, through Friday, September 19, each day from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Italian speed specialist Matteo Franzoso remains in critical condition after crashing in training at La Parva, Chile. The 25-year-old suffered severe head trauma and was flown to a hospital in Santiago, according to FISI and reports from skinews.ch.
