THE RENO (Nevada) Gazette-Journal reported Friday that former Massachusetts Governor and Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney is scheduled to attend the Aug. 21 board meeting of the Reno-Tahoe 2018 Winter Games Coalition.
Romney, who was named president of the Salt Lake City Olympic Committee in 1999, rescued the city's 2002 Winter Olympics from bankruptcy. Under his leadership the newspaper reports the 2002 Salt Lake City Games were a success earning a $100 million profit.
Jim Vanden Heuvel, chief executive of the Reno coalition, said his board isn’t interested in presidential politics. They want Romney’s advice on how to run a successful event.
"Salt Lake went through a pretty difficult period during their bid scandal. We would love to hear how he handled going from a very negative situation to a very positive situation," he said.
