Tarvisio women’s super-G start list: Thin Olympic-season calendar, wide-open field, and Lindsey Vonn chasing SG win No. 29
The women’s World Cup super-G returns to Tarvisio, Italy, on Sunday, Jan. 18, with a field of 60 racers from 19 nations.
This race carries extra weight because the super-G season still has more questions than answers. Only two World Cup super-Gs have occurred so far this winter, and the canceled Zauchensee super-G thinned the pre-Olympic schedule even more. With so few starts, athlete form remains less known, and Tarvisio becomes a key test in the sprint toward Cortina 2026.
The schedule reality: fewer chances before the Olympics
Only four women’s super-Gs will run before the Olympic break. The FIS rescheduled the lost Zauchensee race to Soldeu, Andorra (February), bringing the season back to eight total — but the pre-Olympic calendar remains unusually light, with four after the Games.
Women’s World Cup super-G podiums (2025–26)
| Venue | 1st | 2nd | 3rd |
|---|---|---|---|
| St. Moritz | 🇳🇿 NZL Alice Robinson | 🇫🇷 FRA Romane Miradoli | 🇮🇹 ITA Sofia Goggia |
| Val d’Isère | 🇮🇹 ITA Sofia Goggia | 🇳🇿 NZL Alice Robinson | 🇺🇸 USA Lindsey Vonn |
After two races, the season has produced two different winners (Robinson, Goggia), four podium athletes, and four countries represented. That parity only heightens the tension in Tarvisio.

Vonn’s moment: is win No. 29 on deck?
At 41, Vonn has re-established herself as a force in women’s super-G. Dating back to last season’s Stifel Sun Valley World Cup Finals, she has stood on the super-G podium in two of the last three super-G races. She also has three downhill wins this season, a signal that her speed, confidence, and timing have returned at full volume.
Now the next question feels inevitable in Tarvisio: Is she ready for her first super-G win since returning from retirement? Vonn holds the record for 28 World Cup super-G victories. On Sunday, she lines up for a shot at No. 29.
