Ted Ligety made his much anticipated return to snow this week, freeskiing in New Zealand at the annual U.S. Ski Team summer tech camp. He showed the world that he can still shred in an Instagram post, saying “First day on snow in 6 month 2 days. Feels great!”
The reigning World and Olympic giant slalom champion had not been on snow since tearing his right ACL in January during a training crash in Oberjoch, Germany.
After starting the season strong with a win at the season opener in Soelden, Ligety’s results slipped some as he struggled with various back and hip ailments in the months leading up to his season-ending injury. No doubt Ligety is eyeing a strong return to the World Cup this season after spending the second half of last winter on the sidelines. The American is hoping to claim his fourth consecutive World Championship giant slalom gold medal this coming February in St. Moritz, Switzerland.
