U.S. Ski Team star Ted Ligety announced via social media that he sustained a season-ending knee injury during giant slalom training on Wednesday in Germany. Although Ligety did not compete in Tuesday night’s World Cup slalom classic in Schladming, Austria, he was expected to race this upcoming weekend in Garmisch-Partenkichen, Germany.

“We all know ski racing is a dangerous sport but I always thought I could avoid a season ender. Unfortunately today I tore my ACL GS training and am heading home,” Ligety wrote on Facebook.
