On Wednesday, Verena Gasslitter was injured during a super-G training session in Ushuaia, Argentina. The Italian crashed violently, losing her skis and undergoing an unnatural twist of the left leg, which caused a tibia fracture. Gasslitter was transported to the local hospital, where a complete diagnosis is underway, and the FISI Medical Commission will evaluate with Gasslitter the best way to proceed.

The twenty-one-year-old World Cup skier from Italy had just returned to snow after having missed most of the 2016-17 race season after suffering a torn ACL in her left knee during Lake Louise super-G in December. The unlucky speedster had secured her place in World Cup super-G by winning the Europa Cup discipline title in 2016.

This comes just a couple weeks after her teammate Karoline Pichler tore her ACL and had to undergo surgery, taking her out for another season. Pichler had suffered a different knee injury nearly a year ago that kept her from competing in 2016-17. Pichler last raced in February 2016.
