The Alpine Director establishes the vision for the U.S. Alpine program and leads the strategy, culture, and programming across all levels — from development through elite — to elevate U.S. Ski & Snowboard to new levels of success in this cycle and beyond.
This leader ensures every team and program operates with the structure, resources, and alignment required to succeed at the highest level — sustainably. The role demands deep experience across both development and elite pathways, a proven track record of success, and a passion for building athletes at every stage of their journey.

Key Responsibilities
Athlete Experience & Performance
- Oversee the framework, infrastructure, programming, culture, and resource allocation for all Alpine programs (A, B, C Teams and Regional Development Program).
- Drive unity, transparency, and collaboration across all Alpine programs — particularly between the Regional Development Team and National Team.
- Establish and monitor short- and long-term performance measures with clear accountability.
- Establish team selection criteria and oversee consistent application.
- Develop and manage domestic and international training area relationships to expand athlete opportunities.
- Partner with the SVP of High Performance to drive a fully integrated high-performance model.
- Work with the Development Director to strengthen Regional Programs nationwide and build the next generation of champions.
- Advocate for resources through operating budgets and endowment support.
- Support the Foundation Team in fundraising for the Sport Development Endowment Campaign.
- Foster a culture of emotional safety, transparency, proactive communication, and feedback.
- Continue development of Athlete Project Initiatives, including:
- Athlete liaisons
- Onboarding and offboarding processes
- Team-building initiatives for staff and athletes
- Ensure coaches receive ongoing personal and professional development.
Operational Excellence
- Establish operational structures, reporting lines, and departmental responsibilities.
- Manage Head Coaches and Program Directors through reviews, professional development planning, and organizational OKRs.
- Lead recruitment and retention of world-class coaching talent.
- Create an empowering environment that encourages innovation and initiative.
- Collaborate with the Chief of Sport on program planning and performance evaluation.
- Ensure all coaches are certified through USSS SEA.
- Coordinate World Cup and Olympic operations.
- Direct delivery of the National Development System (NDS).
- Ensure the NDS drives the National Training System (NTS).
- Partner with Sport Education to align curriculum with strategic objectives.
- Contribute to alpine sport education curriculum and present at seminars.
- Educate regions on NTS implementation.
- Work closely with the Alpine Sport Committee Chairman, Regional Directors, Competition Services Director, and FIS committees to develop policies and systems.
- Maintain strong relationships with FIS staff.
- Identify and resolve FIS-related issues in coordination with Head Coaches.
- Build coalitions internationally within FIS.
- Lead the Alpine delegation at FIS meetings.
- Serve on:
- Nor/Am Committee
- FIS Alpine Youth and Children Committee
- Intercontinental Cup Committee
- Alpine Sport Committee (including agenda and material oversight)
- Collaborate with Events Department to align major events with athletic objectives.
- Educate athletes on team agreement and team manual requirements.
- Coordinate with Media Department on inquiries and communications.
Financial Leadership
- Oversee development and management of all Alpine budgets.
- Ensure timely and compliant expense reporting.
- Provide monthly budget updates and forecasts in partnership with the Director of Finance.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Direct oversight of:
- Men’s Alpine Head Coach
- Women’s Alpine Head Coach
- Development Director
- Alpine Team Manager
Qualifications & Experience
- Embodies U.S. Ski & Snowboard values: Grit, Excellence, Team, Fun, Integrity
- Minimum 15 years of coaching and leadership experience in alpine ski racing
- First-hand experience developing successful World Cup athletes
- Direct experience within alpine development pathways
- Strong relationship-building and collaboration skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills (including public speaking)
- Experience managing multiple stakeholders
- Deep understanding of the U.S. and international alpine ecosystem
- Strategic, long-term thinker with strong operational execution skills
- Innovative mindset focused on pushing boundaries
- Strong time management skills; performs well under pressure
- Experience working in both the U.S. and Europe
- Foreign language skills preferred
