From Sept. 25 to 27, athletes, coaches, and parents from USSA’s Central Division — and a few from points beyond — will descend on Glacier Canyon Lodge in Wisconsin Dells, WI, for the 2009 Shelley Glover Ski Education Foundation (SGSEF) Century Bike Ride and Coaches Summit. The SGSEF was established in honor of Shelley Glover, a former US Ski Team member and Burke Mountain Academy student who died tragically in a 2004 training accident. All proceeds from the three-day event support the SGSEF, which fosters growth of the region’s alpine ski racing athletes “through a commitment to safety, education, and leadership development.”

The event’s highlight, of course, is Saturday’s 100 mile bicycle ride, which traces through parts of nearby Devil’s Lake State Park and Mirror Lake State Park. Prominent guest speakers include renowned psychologist Dr. Jim Taylor, a retired ski racer addressing “mental training for athletes,” and Stever Bartlett, a former US Ski Team coach who currently heads the alpine program at Middlebury College. An all-day coaching clinic and workshop concludes the weekend on Sunday Sept. 27.
