Last Friday, USSA Foundation trustee Randy MacDonald died after a courageous medical battle. It is a great loss for his family and for the Foundation and athletes.

His family describes him as a great friend, a thoughtful and decisive leader, a mentor to many, and most of all a loving husband and devoted father. To the ski and snowboard community, he was a passionate friend of our athletes and someone who was proud to have been able to support their dreams.

MacDonald enjoyed an impactful career in human resources and employee relations, including over a decade as IBM’s senior vice president of human resources where he oversaw global HR practices and policies. Prior to that he worked in similar senior positions with Verizon Communications (formerly GTE) and Ingersoll-Rand.

But his real passion came from skiing. He became a partner at Ski Windham in New York, and served as its CEO. USSA was blessed when friend and trustee Bob Reynolds brought MacDonald to the USSA Foundation board in 2011. In his tenure, MacDonald was one of the most engaged trustees, who was always willing to share his expertise to help USSA athletes.

With MacDonald, it was never about him – it was about others, and about the athletes. In his five-year tenure with the Foundation, he played host to a pair of wonderful events at Windham and served as one of the more active members of the New York Gold Medal Gala committee. With his background in human resources, he played a pivotal role in the 2014 CEO transition for the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association.

A memorial mass will be held for MacDonald will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 17 in Greenwich, CT. A separate celebration of his life will be held in Windham, NY at a later date. Below are details on MacDonald’s services and memorial requests from the family.
