The United States Ski and Snowboard Association’s new online registration page has been up and running for about a month now, and USSA member services director Sheryl Barnes says a couple hundred people a day are taking advantage of the new process.
“It’s working incredibly well,” Barnes said. “The most important thing about it is that for athletes, membership is immediate. They don’t have to wait for us to process the information.”
Barnes said USSA’s membership will benefit the most from the online registration process because the traditional paper registration system was more prone to keystroke errors when the information is typed into the system. What’s more, handwriting often is difficult to read, which leads to more errors.
“[Online registration] has been on my plate for a long, long time. There will be additions over time but right now it’s for individuals only and not the clubs,” Barnes said. “It’s something people have been clamoring for and we certainly heard them and got it done.”
Barnes added that plans call for club registration to be added in the future, and coaches and officials must still undergo background screening before their membership is activated or re-activated. There is a direct link to that screening process on the site, which is accessed under the “Membership Tools” tab on the right side of the home page at ussa.org .
