SIRIUS Satellite Radio and the U. S. Ski and Snowboard Association announced Tuesday a marketing and broadcast agreement that makes SIRIUS the Official Radio Provider and Sponsor of the U.S. Ski Team and U.S. Snowboarding.
As the Official Radio Provider of the USSA, SIRIUS has the exclusive satellite radio broadcast rights to all U.S.-based World Cup competitions, the Chevy U.S. Snowboarding Grand Prix events and U.S. Championship events. SIRIUS expects to broadcast exclusive shows and interviews from on location at multiple events including next season's Aspen Winternational Women’s Alpine World Cup in Aspen, the Birds of Prey Men’s Alpine World Cup race week in Beaver Creek, the Visa Freestyle International at Deer Valley Resort in Utah, and this March, the Sprint U.S. Freestyle Championships in Park City.
"SIRIUS has made a tremendous commitment to broadcast elite winter sports competitions to their listeners," said Ted Morris, USSA vice president of sales and marketing. "This is a great way for people to know our athletes on a higher level. SIRIUS does a great job of bringing their personality to events which will resonate with our loyal and passionate fans. We're thrilled to be partnering with this great brand."
Under the agreement, SIRIUS, as an official event sponsor, will have a marketing and promotional presence at these events with the right to display SIRIUS signage including product displays, giveaways and demonstrations.
“Winter sports have always been an important component of SIRIUS’ programming, from live coverage of World Cup events and the X-Games to shows hosted by Olympic-caliber performers like Jonny Moseley,” said Scott Greenstein, SIRIUS’ President of Entertainment and Sports. “This partnership allows us to reach out to more skiing and snowboarding fans with a prominent on-site presence at the country’s best venues while giving listeners around the country access to the USSA's showcase events and superstars like Lindsey Vonn, Julia Mancuso, Ted Ligety, Gretchen Bleiler, Lindsey Jacobellis and Seth Wescott.”
In 2007 SIRIUS, together with World Championship Sports Network, began providing exclusive satellite radio coverage of all international alpine skiing events during the 2007-08 FIS World Cup season. SIRIUS listeners from coast-to-coast and in Canada can hear comprehensive coverage from top FIS World Cup stops in Aspen, Beaver Creek, Kitzbuehel, Austria; Val d’Isere, France; Vancouver, B.C., and elsewhere as well as the highly-anticipated men’s and women’s alpine World Cup Finals from Bormio, Italy March 12-16 where Lindsey Vonn, Bode Miller and Ted Ligety have the potential to make American ski racing history by winning World Cup titles as the season concludes.
