USSA’s Kelly receives Bob Gillen Memorial Award

Mar 23, 2009

Tom Kelly, chief communications officer for the United States Ski and Snowboard Association (USSA) was honored with the 2009 Bob Gillen Memorial Award. The award, named in honor of a former Ski Magazine editor and marketing wizard of Crested Butte and Sugarbush ski resorts, honors an individual who exemplifies the highest standards of professionalism in public relations and media communications.

“I’m honored at being selected to receive this award as a communications professional,” said Kelly. “What’s most meaningful to me is that it was selected by the journalists that we serve. And, even more importantly, that it’s in honor of Bob Gillen, who was truly one of the best PR pros in our industry.”

Kelly has been at his USSA post for over 20 years, contributing significantly to public relations and communications in most every U.S. skiing and riding competition.

“I feel strongly that awards like this are important, not so much for who receive them each year, but so that all of us remember those who the award memorializes,” Kelly said. “The innovation and professionalism that Bob put into his work is a lesson we should all remember.”
