Valérie Grenier says surgery went smoothly after her knee injury during training in Sölden required another ACL reconstruction and a medial meniscus repair. The Canadian is now turning her attention to rehabilitation.
Valérie Grenier has shared an update following surgery, confirming the extent of the knee injury that ruled her out of the World Cup season opener in Sölden.
“As we feared, we unfortunately had to redo my ACL along with repairing my medial meniscus,” Grenier wrote on Instagram.
Grenier injured her knee during training on the race hill in Sölden ahead of the opening weekend of the 2026–27 World Cup season. In her initial announcement, she said the full extent of the damage would not be known until surgery.
Encouraging news following surgery
Despite the difficult diagnosis, Grenier offered a positive account of the procedure and thanked the medical team overseeing her care.
“The great news is that everything went super smoothly, and I want to give a huge thank you to Dr. Simard and the incredible team at CEOM,” she wrote. “Dr. Simard feels extremely confident in the work done and how everything went!”
Grenier also shared an encouraging development for the early stages of her recovery: she expects to begin bearing weight soon.
“Plus, I’ll be able to start weight-bearing pretty soon, which is a major win,” she wrote.
She did not announce a timeline for a return to skiing or competition.
A setback after a winning finish to last season
The injury interrupts preparations for a season Grenier was entering on the back of a return to winning form.
She closed the 2025–26 World Cup season with a giant slalom victory at the Finals in Hafjell, Norway, on March 25. Earlier that winter, she finished third at Tremblant, earning her first World Cup podium on home snow.
Grenier has six career World Cup podiums, including three victories. All three wins have come in giant slalom, with consecutive victories in Kranjska Gora in 2023 and 2024 preceding her win in Norway last March.
Motivated for rehabilitation
As she begins another recovery, Grenier thanked those who have reached out since her injury.
“A big thank you to everyone for all the kind words, I’m truly feeling the love and appreciate the support more than you know,” she wrote.
Her focus now turns to rehabilitation, with the goal of returning to the sport she loves.
“I’m starting rehab with so much motivation and can’t wait to get back to doing what I love!”
Ski Racing Media are sending Valérie strength and healing vibes as she begins her recovery. We’re cheering you on, Val!
