Lindsey, Thomas VonnAmerican winter Olympians took home several trophies tonight (July 14) at the ESPY awards held in Los Angeles, Cali. and hosted by Saturday Night Live comedian Seth Meyers.

ESPN’s annual award ceremony put the power to chose the winners is the fans’ hands as thousands weighed in by text message, Facebook and on ESPN.com.  

Olympic gold and bronze medal winning ski racer Lindsey Vonn took home  awards for Best Female Athlete of the Year and Best U.S. Olympic Female Athlete. In the Best Female Athlete category Vonn beat out tennis star Serena Williams and basketball players Maya Moore and Diana Taurasi. Also nominated in the best U.S. Olympic Female category were Vonn’s U.S. Ski Team teammates Vancouver Games double silver medalist racer Julia Mancuso and gold medalist moguls skier Hannah Kearney.

“I want to thank all the fans. Everyone supported me through everything … I really appreciate that,” said Vonn. “Above all else I want to thank my husband Thomas. I love you so much thank you for always supporting me.” 

Two-time Olympic gold medalist snowboarder Shaun White also won two awards in the Best Male Action Sport Athlete (for the fourth time) and Best U.S. Male Olympic Athlete categories, beating out racer Bode Miller in the latter.

Vonn and White teamed up earlier in the evening to present the Best Record Breaking Performance Award.
