Waterville Valley Resort and Waterville Valley Black and Blue Trail Smashers (WVBBTS) announced a new multi-year comprehensive partnership with the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association (USSA). The agreement designates Waterville Valley Resort as a U.S. Ski and Snowboard Team Development Site, confirming two annual competitive events.

Tim Smith, President and General Manager of Waterville Valley Resort expressed excitement about the partnership.

“Waterville Valley Resort was designed by a two-time Olympian and U.S. Ski Team member and has a long history of producing high caliber competitors,” Smith said. “Having hosted 11 World Cup Races, Waterville Valley truly is a competitor’s mountain. It is very exciting to bring together these three entities and formalize the enormous growth and support that our site has to offer competitive snowsports.”

It is an equally important opportunity for the local ski team and Waterville Valley Academy (WVA).

“It is exciting to continue to develop a strong partnership and alliance with both Waterville Valley Resort and the U.S. Ski Team, for the benefit of all the WVBBTS and WVA athletes and the entire New Hampshire ski community,” said Peter Stokloza, WVBBTS and WVA CEO and executive director.  “Officially being named a U.S. Ski Team training site, enables athletes from around the country to experience a world-class mountain and a snowsports organization that is rich in tradition and legacy, continually looking to improve and augment the on-hill venues and resources.”

One of the oldest ski clubs in the country, WVBBTS has become one of the leading training and competition centers in the United States. In 2014, WVBBTS was named a Certified Gold Level Club as part of the club development program by the USSA. In 2015, WVBBTS was selected by the United States Olympic Committee as a Community Olympic Development Program (CODP), and was the first mountain sports organization in the eastern United States to receive the designation and is one of 15 CODPs nationwide.

The recent partnership with USSA continues the commitment of Waterville Valley Resort and WVBBTS to the support and advancement of athletes, on and off the slopes.
