WENGEN, Switzerland – Due to inconsistent snow conditions and the forecast for the rest of the day, the opening downhill training run in Wengen was canceled. With warm temperatures over the last week and recent snowfall, course crews were hard at work in the morning trying to prepare the track.
Snow conditions were at best inconsistent and at worst chunky and soft on the famed Lauberhorn track during inspection, and the call to cancel training was made just short of two hours before the scheduled 12:30 p.m. CET start time.
As a precaution, two reserve starts have been prepared. The normal combined downhill start just before the Hundschopf as well as a second reserve start below the Hundschopf are ready in the event that conditions worsen over the next few days.
The originally scheduled opening training run set for Tuesday was canceled earlier in the week due to a forecast calling for snow, so race organizers have only one day left before the start of the races in Wengen to complete a training run. Course crews will be hard at work the rest of the day and into tomorrow in preparation for tomorrow’s final scheduled training run.
The alpine combined is scheduled for Jan. 15, the Lauberhorn downhill for Jan. 16, and the slalom for Jan. 17.
