The U.S. women put two on the podium of the K2 Whistler Cup slalom Saturday with Mikaela Shiffrin collecting the gold by a scant margin over Bara Strakova of the Czech Republic. Paula Moltzan posted the bronze medal time.

Canadian Kelly Moore was fourth and she had support from teammate Candace Crawford in sixth.

All told the American group pushed four into the top eight as Katherine Irwin was seventh and Elle Gilbert eighth.

Shiffrin’s win was not surprising to the Whistler Cup faithful as she swept the K1 races last season.

Finland’s Max Luukko struck for the men’s win, keeping Daniel Duffy from making it a K2 U.S. sweep. Canadian super G winner Broderick Thompson scored third a second podium result.
