Full-Time, Year-Round | Whistler, BC
Whistler Mountain Ski Club (WMSC) is seeking a Lead FIS Coach to lead the club’s FIS program end to end — owning the plan, delivering the on-snow coaching, and driving athlete performance through the FIS pathway.
Position Summary
The Lead FIS Coach owns the design and daily delivery of the FIS program at Whistler Mountain Ski Club. This is a working head-coach role: the successful candidate builds the program plan and is on snow delivering it. The position is full-time and year-round, based in Whistler, BC, and reports to the Executive Director.
The Lead FIS Coach will:
- Own the yearly training plan, periodization, and season race calendar for the FIS group.
- Serve as the program’s primary on-snow coach through prep period, camps, and the competition season.
- Review athlete performance against the plan and adjust programming through the season.
Program Leadership
- Build and maintain the FIS yearly training plan: prep period, camps, competition phases, and peaking.
- Construct the season race calendar and manage race entries and start logistics.
- Plan and lead training camps, including glacier and travel camps.
- Set athlete performance objectives and review progress against them at regular intervals.
- Manage the FIS program budget in coordination with the Executive Director.
- Report program status to club leadership on an agreed cadence.
On-Snow Coaching
- Deliver daily on-snow sessions as the program’s primary coach across technical and speed disciplines.
- Set courses appropriate to training objectives and conditions.
- Run video capture and review as a standing element of the training week.
- Direct equipment and tuning standards for the group.
- Lead race-day coaching: inspection, tactics, warm-up, and debrief.
- Uphold training-site and speed-event safety standards without exception.
Qualifications — Required
- Alpine Canada Performance Level certified or equivalent international certification; or Development Level certified (or equivalent) with Performance Level in progress.
- Coach licence in good standing with the Canadian Ski Coaches Federation / Alpine Canada, or equivalent national federation.
- Demonstrated record of coaching and developing athletes at the FIS level.
- Working knowledge of the FIS ICR, points system, and race administration.
- Completion of Alpine Canada Safe Sport requirements.
- Successful criminal record check with vulnerable sector screening.
- Current first aid certification, or obtained before start date.
- Valid driver’s licence.
- Legally entitled to work in Canada.
Qualifications — Assets
- Experience planning and leading international camps.
- Speed-event coaching experience (SG/DH).
- BC Class 4 driver’s licence.
- Race organization experience.
Employment Terms
- Full-time, year-round position based in Whistler, BC.
- Compensation ($72,000–$84,000) commensurate with qualifications and experience.
- The schedule includes early mornings, weekends, holidays, and extensive travel during the competition season.
- Target start date: September 2026.
