Worlds: Thumbs up to victory for Vonn
Val d’Isere, France – World Champion Lindsey Vonn pointed out that she’s been quite safe skiing downhill at 85 mph, but had a little accident celebrating her second world championship gold medal in Val d’Isere on Monday.
Vonn cut her right hand opening a champagne bottle after winning the world championship downhill (no injuries celebrating her super G gold a few days prior) and was treated with stitches by U.S. Team doctor Jeff Harrison.
Vonn’s thumb is wrapped heavily in bandages, but she says it won’t slow her down for the remaining worlds giant slalom and slalom events.
When responding to a slew of congratulations during a champagne toast at the U.S. Team hotel Monday evening, Vonn raised her bandaged thumb with a good-natured grin and said, “thumbs up.”
