In the latest episode of the Skiing is Believing podcast, Matt Garcka met with the 2022 Olympic giant slalom silver medallist, Žan Kranjec.

He joined Matt from his home on the outskirts of Ljubljana before he competes in front of local fans in Kranjska Gora on Saturday. Kranjec shared his thoughts on the season so far, with his most noticeable result coming in Beaver Creek, Colorado, finishing third behind Pinheiro Braathen and Tumler.

Kranjec has been very consistent this season with five World Cup top ten results; however, he made it very clear that another podium is something he certainly wants to achieve in the remaining three GS’s of the season.

He also shared the story of how he first got into ski racing and how the progression to the Europa/World Cup, some 14 years ago, was a journey he enjoyed. His competitive nature is one attribute that fueled his ambition for success.

In the current generation of giant slalom racers, often dominated by Marco Odermatt, Kranjec spoke highly of the competitive field he faces as he strives to achieve his goals of more podiums and successes in the coming seasons.

Heading into this weekend, he sits fourth in the overall giant slalom standings and within close distance of Odermatt, Kristoffersen, and Steen Olsen ahead of him.

Kranjec also spoke at length about skiing and, specifically, ski racing in Slovenia and how the progression has stalled. He shared his thoughts on the younger racers that are emerging in the sport.
