Zauchensee — Strong, gusting winds forced organizers to cancel Sunday’s women’s World Cup super-G on the Kälberloch course, cutting a rare super-G opportunity from the Olympic-season calendar.
As conditions failed to improve, the focus quickly shifted from whether the race could run to whether FIS could recover the lost start. With only a handful of speed races scheduled before the Olympic break, every canceled super-G carries real weight for discipline standings, seeding and Olympic team selection decisions.
Tarvisio stands out as the most realistic replacement option
Tarvisio offers the clearest path forward. The women are already scheduled to begin downhill training there on January 15, race downhill on January 17, and contest a super-G on January 18, creating a natural opening in the program.
If weather and logistics cooperate, officials could add a second super-G in Tarvisio and reclaim the lost Zauchensee race without reshaping the broader calendar. With so few super-G opportunities remaining before the Olympic pause, the incentive to expand the Tarvisio schedule remains strong, even if confirmation may take time.
For now, the women’s speed field moves on with one fewer start and hopes the calendar can still deliver another chance to race before the focus turns fully toward Milano-Cortina 2026.
