Who is racing, when and how to watch the Spindleruv Mlyn slalom

Sunday, January 29th, the Spindleruv Mlyn SL will be Mikaela Shiffrin’s first attempt at matching Ingemar Stenmark’s total of 86 World Cup victories set in 1989. After her dominant performance today she will be hard to bet against. If it happens it will occur in front of one of the women’s loudest and largest crowds.

However, the incredibly talented women’s slalom field also wants to win. They know what it will take. They will ski at and beyond their limits to try and earn a victory. While they will celebrate with Shiffrin if she matches Stenmark’s total, they will do their best to make her wait for another race.

This will be the final World Cup before the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships in Meribel, France. Shiffrin will not have another chance to add to her total before the Crans Montana downhill on February 25th.

Uniquely, Spindleruv Mlyn is the 2011 site of Shiffrin’s first career World Cups races. In her last few days as a fifteen-year-old, she raced giant slalom and slalom before her 16th birthday.

Currently, the US women are leading the 2022-23 Nation Cup slalom standings.
