U.S. Collegiate Ski Association Highlights Growth, Challenges, and Partnership Opportunities in 2024–25 Report
During the U.S. Ski & Snowboard Congress Collegiate Working Group session, United States Collegiate Ski Association (USCSA) representative Ron Bonneau presented the organization’s 2024–25 season report. The update showed steady participation across all disciplines, with 4,827 student-athletes from 145 colleges and universities forming 576 teams in alpine skiing, snowboard, Nordic, and freeski. These athletes competed in events hosted by USCSA’s 11 regional conferences, representing 38 states.
Bonneau emphasized USCSA’s commitment to inclusivity, noting the wide range of team structures—from fully funded varsity programs to student-led clubs. The report identified key challenges, such as leadership turnover, limited resources for club teams, and the need to raise awareness of collegiate snowsport opportunities beyond high school.
The season also brought historic success. The 2025 U.S. Collegiate Ski & Snowboard National Championships at Mt. Bachelor set a new participation record, drawing 689 athletes from 75 institutions. Despite some weather-related disruptions, nearly all scheduled events ran as planned, showcasing the strength and scale of the USCSA championship format.
Bonneau also highlighted growing collaboration with U.S. Ski & Snowboard and proposed strategies for deeper alignment. Recommendations included expanding the recognition of officials’ certifications, creating a collegiate USSS membership category, and incorporating coaching education into college curricula. The report highlights significant joint benefits—especially in athlete retention, coach development, and maximizing training resources across programs.
