About Peter Gerber Plech

Peter Gerber Plech is editor-in-chief and owner of the portal skinews.ch. He was born in Bern (Switzerland) in 1963 and has been a professional journalist since 1991. From 1991 to the end of October 2013 he worked as a sports editor (Thuner Tagblatt, Luzerner Zeitung, Berner Zeitung) and later as editor-in-chief (Seetaler Bote) and switched to online journalism in 2014. From 2014 to the end of 2017 he was editor-in-chief of skionline.ch and then founded the portal skinews.ch, which went online in June 2018. Peter Gerber Plech taught journalism in the multimedia production course at two universities of applied sciences in Switzerland (Chur and Bern) between 2012 and 2018. Since autumn 2013 he lives around Vienna (Austria).

New FIS Helmet Advertising Rules Should Boost Revenue for Ski Athletes

About a year ago, the color scheme of ski helmets became a hot topic in the ski racing world. FIS President Johan Eliasch was unhappy with the "Red Bull helmets" Marco Odermatt and others wore. He felt the design looked too much like the sponsor's product. Despite the debate, the regulations remained unchanged, and the FIS did not restrict the color and design of helmets. New regulations will provide more advertising space on helmets starting in July 2024. Previously, athletes had 50 square centimeters for advertising on the front of the helmet. Now, they have an additional 50 square centimeters for a second logo on the front or sides of the helmet.

Ski Gossip: AJ Ginnis and Christina Födermayr’s Romance Heats Up

June 30th, The ski world is celebrating a new couple: Greek skier AJ Ginnis (29) and Austrian ski crosser Christina Födermayr (23). AJ Ginnis, a former US Ski Team member, has found success since starting to ski for his native country of Greece. Last season, he won the men's slalom silver at the 2023 World Championship.

Felix Monsen Faces Career Uncertainty as Swedish Federation Cuts Support

Felix Monsen is currently the only Swede competing in the World Cup speed disciplines, which has become increasingly challenging. The Swedish Ski Association, citing the “weak Swedish krona,” “high inflation,” and a “dry sponsorship market,” announced cost-cutting measures in May. Consequently, the Federation's negotiated integration of Monsen into the Norwegian men's speed team initially planned through the 2026 Olympic Games, has ended.

Sölden Giant Slalom Canceled: New Venue Search Outside Austria

The FIS intends to reschedule the men’s World Cup giant slalom that was canceled on Sunday due to strong winds.  However, the World Ski Association has also clarified that the race must be held at a World Cup location already included in the 2023/24 calendar and that a new organizer cannot be added.

Bang in Sölden – Lucas Braathen ends his career immediately

Over, over, over - Lucas Braathen has just announced at a press conference in Sölden, to everyone's surprise, that he is ending his career as a ski racer. The recent dispute with the Norwegian association was too much of a bad thing.
