Dasha Romanov and Killington seem to be an unlucky pairing. In November 2023, the U.S. Ski Team’s technical specialist prepared for her third World Cup appearance on Killington’s Superstar course. Just two weeks earlier, she had competed in her first-ever World Cup races in Levi. Everything pointed toward another milestone in her young career. However, the night before the race, severe back pain derailed her plans. On race day, Romanov warmed up but soon realized she couldn’t continue. The pain was so intense that others had to help her remove her skis and boots. A herniated disc ultimately sidelined Romanov for the entire season.
Now, another setback has emerged. Romanov felt ready and excited for her long-awaited comeback. But two days ago, she was involved in a car accident that heavily damaged the right side of her vehicle. “We were very lucky; everyone is okay,” the 21-year-old wrote on Instagram. Her optimism, however, masked the full story. Romanov suffered a concussion and whiplash in the crash. These injuries will keep her from competing in ski races for the foreseeable future.
“For now, I’m looking forward to cheering on the team and focusing on recovering quickly,” she added.
