Rowmark Ski Academy and Junior Program Overview

Founded in 1982 as a division of Rowland Hall, Rowmark Ski Academy combines elite alpine ski racing with a rigorous academic experience. The academy consistently ranks among the nation’s top ski-racing programs and became one of the first clubs to earn US Ski & Snowboard Gold Certification. Rowmark has produced Olympians, World Champions, and NCAA All-Americans.

Rowmark Ski Academy serves full-time student-athletes in grades 9–12 at Rowland Hall. The academy also operates a three-tiered Junior Program for Rowland Hall students in grades 3–8.

Athletes compete in the Intermountain Division of US Ski & Snowboard and train at Utah Olympic Park and Park City Mountain Resort’s 2002 Olympic Race Arena.

Position Summary

Rowmark Ski Academy seeks an Assistant FIS Coach, Academic Liaison to support the athletic and academic development of student-athletes. The role works closely with Head FIS Coaches, the Head Conditioning Coach, Team Manager, and Rowland Hall Academic Coordinator to provide comprehensive support for athletes in the FIS program and throughout the academy.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Coach and support the FIS Team alongside the Head FIS Coaches during all on- and off-snow activities, including training, racing, and camps. The Rowmark FIS Team will include approximately 20 athletes during the 2026–27 season.
  • Assist with the academy’s conditioning program for U16, U19, and U21 athletes of both genders in partnership with the Head Conditioning Coach. The Rowmark Academy Team will include approximately 40 athletes during the 2026–27 season.
  • Support the Rowmark Academic Coordinator in working with student-athletes, particularly those managing time-management challenges, organizational issues, extensive school absences, learning disabilities, or other academic obstacles. Proctor study halls during the winter trimester, camps, and race trips alongside other Rowmark staff.
  • Evaluate athlete development throughout the season through goal-setting, semi-annual physical testing, and written evaluations following camps, mid-season, and season-end reviews. Assist Head FIS Coaches with athlete evaluations.
  • Communicate clearly with athletes, parents, team managers, and school administrators regarding training, competition schedules, and travel plans.
  • Coordinate FIS Team travel logistics with Head FIS Coaches and the Team Manager, including flights, lodging, and ground transportation.
  • Attend staff meetings scheduled by the director.
  • Participate in Intermountain Division and/or US Ski & Snowboard meetings and clinics.
  • Maintain current knowledge of SafeSport policies, US Ski & Snowboard regulations, FIS rules, and equipment specifications.
  • Travel and work for extended periods as required.
  • Adapt quickly to weather-related schedule changes and other unforeseen adjustments.
  • Complete additional duties assigned by the director and head coaches.
  • Participate in the weekly staff driving rotation transporting athletes between school and training venues. This responsibility requires obtaining and maintaining a Utah Commercial Driver’s License (CDL Class C Passenger endorsement).
  • Demonstrate a professional, positive, and mature coaching style while working with adolescent athletes.

Skills and Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • US Ski & Snowboard Level 100 Coach certification or higher required
  • Utah Commercial Driver’s License (CDL Class C Passenger endorsement) required; candidates may obtain the license after receiving an offer
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification required and maintained every two years
  • Strong cultural competency on and off the hill
  • Proficiency with video cameras, computers, and video analysis/uploading platforms
  • Strong communication skills with students, families, and colleagues
  • Ability to contribute effectively as an organized and productive team member within the ski academy

Candidates must meet the physical demands required to perform essential job functions. Reasonable accommodations may support individuals with disabilities in fulfilling these responsibilities. Duties regularly require employees to:

  • Lift and carry 40–50 pounds, including SL and GS gates, while skiing on alpine training hills
  • Move efficiently around ski hills, weight rooms, gyms, and athletic fields while coaching and supporting student-athletes

Additional Information

This full-time, year-round exempt position begins July 1, 2026, and includes a comprehensive benefits package. The Assistant FIS Coach, Academic Liaison reports directly to the Rowmark Ski Academy Director.
