The Grouse Mountain Tyee Ski Club is building its coaching staff for the 2026/27 season and is now hiring a U14 Head Coach and a U16 Assistant Coach. Based on Vancouver’s iconic Grouse Mountain, the club continues its long tradition of developing young ski racers while fostering a culture built on performance, sportsmanship, and a lifelong passion for skiing.
Founded in 1929, Grouse Tyee has become one of British Columbia’s most respected alpine ski racing clubs, supporting athletes from entry-level racing through high-performance development. The club is searching for coaches who bring energy, leadership, technical expertise, and an athlete-centered approach to development.
U14 Head Coach — Grouse Mountain Tyee Ski Club
Grouse Tyee is seeking an inspiring, organized, and athlete-centered U14 Head Coach to lead one of the most important stages of athlete development within the club’s programming. The position focuses on helping athletes transition from the Learn to Train stage into the Train to Train stage in alignment with Alpine Canada’s Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD) model.
The U14 Head Coach will oversee all aspects of the U14 program, including:
- annual training and competition planning
- athlete development
- race programming
- travel coordination
- staff leadership
- operational management
- communication with families and athletes
Working closely with the Program Director and coaching staff, the successful candidate will help athletes develop strong technical foundations, healthy training habits, confidence, independence, leadership skills, and competitive race preparation.
Key Responsibilities
The U14 Head Coach will:
- Design and implement the annual U14 training and competition plan aligned with ACA LTAD principles
- Lead dryland training, fitness testing, on-snow camps, race preparation, and competition programming
- Collaborate with the Program Director to adjust programming throughout the season
- Maximize training opportunities through partnerships with clubs, resorts, and provincial organizations
- Support athlete development through technical coaching, equipment education, and race preparation
- Ensure athlete safety, wellbeing, and a positive team culture during training and travel
- Coordinate race entries, licensing, insurance, and team travel logistics
- Provide regular athlete progress updates to families and club leadership
The role also includes leadership in strength and conditioning programming. Responsibilities include:
- Delivering age-appropriate strength and conditioning programs
- Working with sports medicine practitioners and performance partners
- Supporting rehabilitation and injury prevention initiatives
- Developing athlete progress tracking systems and annual evaluations
- Promoting healthy training habits and physical literacy
Communication and leadership remain central to the role. The successful candidate will:
- Lead preseason and postseason parent meetings
- Maintain clear and professional communication with athletes and families
- Build relationships with BC Alpine, ACA, race organizers, clubs, and industry partners
- Participate in zone, provincial, and club leadership meetings
- Advocate for athlete opportunities, sponsorships, and special projects
The U14 Head Coach will also help hire, mentor, supervise, and evaluate assistant coaches and support staff while fostering a collaborative and accountable coaching environment. Additional operational responsibilities include budget management, equipment inventory coordination, scheduling, expense tracking, and supporting athletes with scholarship or bursary documentation where applicable.
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred candidates will have:
- ACA Development Level Certification (or international equivalent)
- Valid ACA license including SafeSport requirements and a clean background check
- FIS-level ski racing experience, with provincial, NCAA, or national team experience considered an asset
- Minimum five years of alpine ski coaching experience
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills
- A valid driver’s license and willingness to travel extensively during winter
- Experience with strength and conditioning programming
- First Aid certification (20+ hours preferred)

U16 Assistant Coach — Grouse Mountain Tyee Ski Club
Grouse Tyee is also hiring a U16 Assistant Coach for the 2026/27 season. The seasonal part-time role runs from mid-December through mid-April and supports athletes during a critical stage of technical and competitive development.
The club is searching for a positive, dependable, and motivated coach who brings strong communication skills and enthusiasm for athlete development both on and off the snow.
Key Responsibilities
The U16 Assistant Coach will:
- Support the U16 Head Coach during on-snow and off-snow training sessions
- Assist with planning and execution of seasonal training and race schedules
- Provide individualized technical feedback and instruction
- Contribute to athlete assessments and development planning
- Maintain athlete safety and a positive team culture
- Support race-day logistics and athlete management during competitions
- Communicate clearly with athletes, parents, and coaching staff
Qualifications and Requirements
Candidates should possess:
- ACA Development Level Trained certification minimum (or international equivalent)
- Valid ACA coaching license including SafeSport and a clean criminal record check
- Ski racing experience
- Experience coaching or working with U14 or older athletes
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- A team-oriented and dependable approach
- Valid driver’s license and access to transportation
The position requires coaches to work:
- Tuesday and Thursday evening training sessions (approximately 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.)
- Saturday and Sunday programming (approximately 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.)
- One four- to five-day training camp each month in January, February, and March
Preferred assets include:
- First Aid certification
- Competitive ski racing experience
- Familiarity with Alpine Canada’s LTAD model
- Previous involvement with club programming
