Green Mountain Valley School (GMVS) is thrilled to announce that former U.S. Ski Team head coach Brandon Dyksterhouse, GMVS ‘93, has joined GMVS as its Alpine Technical and High Performance Consultant.

Brandon was a fierce alpine competitor. He earned nearly ninety podium position finishes at FIS races, winning over forty times. He was a five-time All-American at UVM (where he is a member of the UVM Athletic Hall of Fame) and an NCAA champion in giant slalom. Since his retirement from alpine skiing, Brandon has focused his competitive energy in cycling. He has excelled in long distance events, such as the Leadville 100, over the past several years.

Brandon’s professional career is equally impressive, marked by success wherever he has traveled. He coached FIS boys at GMVS, an NCAA title team at the University of New Mexico, the British Columbia Ski Team (11 athletes went on to race World Cup), Ski and Snowboard Club Vail, the USST–as Mikaela Shiffrin’s lead coach (who was undefeated in WC SL over his two year coaching stint, and World Cup and Olympic champion Lindsey Vonn leading into the Olympics where she went on a four win streak.

Over the past six years, Brandon has kept his hand in ski racing, while also serving as CEO for The Feed, a company dedicated to providing athletes with the right nutrition at the right time to improve performance, and increase enjoyment of training and racing. Under Brandon’s leadership, The Feed has enjoyed a twenty-fold increase in sales. More importantly, what he has learned in this role about physiology, sports nutrition and recovery provides opportunities for GMVS to improve and expand its systems and Programming.

“I am excited to be working with Brandon. His passion and connections with the GMVS community, coupled with his broad understanding of world class alpine ski racing, will help continue to position the school at the forefront of alpine programs and ski academies,” notes Steve Utter, GMVS Alpine Program Director.

Projects that Brandon will execute for GMVS include collaborating with the alpine staff to update its alpine technical statement, and subsequently delivering coaches’ education across all age groups (including the Ski Club) designed to bring the technical statement to life, evaluating viable options for additional GMVS “campuses” or partnerships in the Western U.S. and Europe, drafting a comprehensive coaches’ development program designed to attract and develop young coaches, and to crystallize and refine “The GMVS Way” – what optimizing human performance really means to GMVS, how it impacts results, and how to individualize training loads.

GMVS is excited to have Brandon on board in this consulting role. The breadth and depth of his experiences provide both an intimate and first-hand understanding of GMVS, coupled with a world view of high performance athletics in general, and alpine ski racing in particular. Brandon’s contribution has already started and will continue through the year.

Founded in 1973 and entering its 50th year, Green Mountain Valley School (GMVS) stands apart as a unique educational institution of about 125 students that supports one very clear mission: through the unique sport of ski racing (Alpine and Nordic) and, through education in the liberal arts tradition, it is our mission to develop the whole person with a life-long love of learning, sport and adventure. Our goal is to create an environment in which our students can become well-rounded scholars, athletes, and citizens who value discipline, responsibility, respect, independent initiative, and total commitment and effort.
