SAALBACH, Austria (Feb. 7, 2025) — Canadian ski racer Cameron Alexander will miss the 2025 FIS World Ski Championships after injuring his knee during downhill training on Thursday.

Alexander, 26, landed awkwardly after compressing over a roller on the upper section of the course. He regained his balance and skied to the finish but later felt knee pain. The Canadian team doctor and local medical staff examined him and ruled him out for the remainder of the championships.

The North Vancouver native has delivered strong performances this season, finishing third in the prestigious Kitzbühel downhill last month—an incredible achievement on one of the sport’s most demanding courses. He also secured third place in the 2023 World Championship downhill in Courchevel, France, reinforcing his status as one of Canada’s top speed skiers.

Alexander’s absence marks a significant loss for Canada, North America, and the ski racing community. He will return to Canada, where team medical specialists will assess his injury and determine the next steps in his recovery. Alpine Canada has not yet announced a timeline for his return to competition.
