Rossignol Group has announced the signing of a 2-year sponsorship deal with Swiss skier Carlo Janka, the 27-year-old who won giant slalom Olympic gold in 2010 as well as the overall World Cup title that year. The contract includes Rossignol ski equipment, bindings and boots.

Although Janka has amassed a total of 20 World Cup podiums across four disciplines over the course of his career, he last found his way to the podium in the Wengen super combined in Jan. 2013. Janka last won a World Cup race in 2011, and he has struggled with injury and illness since. However, he demonstrated signs of resurgence in 2014, particularly in the speed disciplines, by collecting five top-10 World Cup results and two Olympic placings also inside the top 10.

“I am really satisfied to begin this new adventure with Rossignol to try to find the highest level,” said Janka. “It is a brand which possesses very good equipment and it is pleasant to integrate a so motivated team.”

Janka skied on Atomic during his most successful seasons, 2009 and 2010, but has now made the change from the Austrian manufacturer to the French. It remains to be seen if he will ever regain the giant slalom form he had in the years when the technical discipline proved to be his strongest.

“Having Carlo Janka making the choice of Rossignol is a real sign of confidence,” remarked Rossignol Race Director Angelo Maina. “We are proud having an athlete like him joining our team and we wish obviously that he will reach all his goals with our material.”

Depending on his adjustment to the new equipment, Janka may emerge as a dark horse to reclaim his title from Val d’Isere in 2009 after finishing sixth from bib 68 in the Beaver Creek GS this past December, on the same track where the men will contest the upcoming 2015 World Championships.
