The men’s Super-G season enters a decisive stretch this weekend in Courchevel, France, where the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup schedule features two races that will shape both the crystal globe race and who qualifies for the World Cup Finals.
Friday’s race is the makeup Super-G originally scheduled for Garmisch-Partenkirchen, giving the discipline an extra regular-season contest before the World Cup Finals. With only two regular-season Super-G races remaining, the results in Courchevel will go a long way toward determining both the season champion and which athletes finish in the top 25 of the standings to qualify for the Finals in Kvitfjell, Norway.
In this article, readers will find how and when to watch the race, the official start list, and analysis of the field, including the Super-G standings, season podium trends, and when the top contenders will start.
Top Five — World Cup Super-G Standings
(after Kitzbühel — 6 of 9 races)
1st 🇨🇭 Marco Odermatt (SUI, 1997, Stöckli) — 425 pts
2nd 🇦🇹 Vincent Kriechmayr (AUT, 1991, Head) — −158
3rd 🇦🇹 Stefan Babinsky (AUT, 1996, Head) — −182
4th 🇦🇹 Raphael Haaser (AUT, 1997, Atomic) — −184
5th 🇮🇹 Giovanni Franzoni (ITA, 2001, Oakley) — −185
Marco Odermatt enters the weekend with a commanding advantage as he pursues a fourth consecutive Super-G crystal globe. Earlier Friday in Courchevel, the Swiss star also clinched both the World Cup downhill title and his fifth consecutive overall World Cup title, continuing another dominant season.
The downhill globe marked his third consecutive title in the discipline, and he now arrives at the Super-G races with a chance to secure a fourth straight Super-G title.
While the Super-G globe is not mathematically decided, Odermatt has built a significant cushion over the chasing group.
Behind him, the battle remains wide open. Vincent Kriechmayr, Stefan Babinsky, Raphael Haaser and Giovanni Franzoni are separated by only a handful of points in the standings, meaning the two Courchevel races could dramatically reshape the order behind the leader.
With two regular-season races remaining after Friday’s makeup event, the standings will become much clearer by Sunday evening — though the final list of athletes qualifying for the World Cup Finals will only be known after the second Courchevel race.
