Marco Odermatt has secured the super-G crystal globe for the fourth straight season after both scheduled races in Courchevel, France were cancelled this weekend due to heavy snowfall and unsafe conditions.
The Swiss star didn’t need to start a race to clinch the title. With only one super-G left on the calendar at next weekend’s World Cup Finals in Norway, Odermatt holds a 158-point lead over Austria’s Vincent Kriechmayr in the discipline standings — a gap that can’t be erased with a maximum of 100 points available for a race win.
Today’s race was called off just hours before the planned start after officials determined the course could not be prepared safely.
“The slope is unfortunately not safe to race on,” the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) said in a statement.
Saturday’s super-G had already been cancelled due to fog and ongoing snowfall. With the World Cup season wrapping up next week, organizers confirmed the races would not be rescheduled.
Odermatt has been the standout performer in super-G again this season, winning two of the six races so far and remaining the only athlete in the discipline with multiple victories.
The super-G globe adds to what has already been another dominant season for the 27-year-old. Odermatt secured both the overall and downhill titles after finishing third in Friday’s downhill in Courchevel.
He will now head to the World Cup Finals in Norway with a strong chance of adding one more trophy, currently leading the giant slalom standings.
If he captures the GS title as well, Odermatt would once again sweep four crystal globes in a single season — matching the remarkable run he achieved in each of the past two years.
