Who is skiing, when and how to watch the Sunday, February 19th Courchevel world championship men’s slalom

The Courchevel men’s slalom will be an excellent finale for the 2023 FIS Alpine World Ski Championships. The exciting prerace news is the return of the flamboyant Lucas Braathen. Due to an emergency appendectomy, the season’s slalom leader missed the last race in Chamonix and the world championship GS, however, he is listed on tomorrow’s start list. Hopefully, he is able to display his excellence.

Notably, all top-ranked slalom skiers will compete for the world championship title. There are three Swiss, two Norwegians, one German, and one Austrian in the elite seven. More than likely, the winner will come from this group. However, as the women reminded fans today, surprises are a regular part of the world championships. Men’s SL is the most competitive field in ski racing. There have been five different winners from three nations.

No one has won more than two of the eight slaloms this season. Norway’s Lucas Braathen, Norway’s Henrik Kristoffersen and Switzerland’s Daniel Yule have each won two and Switzerland’s Ramon Zenhaeusern and Frances Clement Noel have won one. Noel is the only one who is not ranked in the first seven.

Notably, Austria’s Manuel Feller will be hungry, he has been fast all year and the Austrians have yet to win a gold medal in these championships. Notably, Canada and the US have each won two

Snow Conditions

The Courchevel L’Eclipse slalom hill is highly watered and is solid ice. Before the daytime temperatures warm up the ice, expect only the very best to be fast. As fans witnessed during the men’s GS; if the course is challenging, the morning conditions only reward exceptional skiing. Appropriate when deciding on a world champion.

North Americans racing Courchevel world championship slalom

Following the Chamonix slalom race, four male North American slalom skiers have scored World Cup points this season – CAN, Erik Read, USA Luke Winters, USA Jett Seymour and USA Benjamin Ritchie. However, if snow conditions are as good as they appear, all four North Americans entered can finish the day in the top 15.

Alpine Canada Alpin has entered one Slalom skier and the Stifel US Alpine Team has entered three.

The men’s first run starts at 4:00 am Eastern Time and 1:00 am on the West Coast. Additionally, the second run will begin at 7:30 am Eastern Time and 4:30 am on the West Coast. Remember, a live simulcast and full replay are available, with Steve Porino and Steve Schlanger announcing on Ski and Snowboard Live. Additionally, Peacock will offer a live simulcast.
