Day three of the Junior World Ski Championships in Panorama, British Columbia brought consistent conditions and sunshine for back-to-back races. Magdalena Egger of Austria racked up her second gold medal of the series winning Saturday’s super-G.

“I am so happy and really proud of my skiing,” said Egger. “I just let my skis go and skied how I know how to ski, it makes me really happy. I am confident about the alpine combined, I’m more of a technical skier and do a lot of slalom so I think it’s going to be nice as well.”

Egger came off her downhill win on Thursday with momentum, capturing her now-fifth junior world gold. She finished third in last year’s junior world super-G in an Austrian sweep. Egger finished with a time of 1:08:34, nearly a half-second faster than U.S. Development Team member Ava Sunshine Jemison in second. 

After Jemison’s 20th-place finish in the downhill race, she was eager to come back faster and capitalize on good snow conditions. 

“It feels amazing, really happy even though it hasn’t quite sunk in,” said Jemison. “I was a little nervous because I didn’t have the best downhill race but it made me determined to make today a good one.”

After teammate Lauren Macuga snagged the bronze in Thursday’s downhill, Jemison was inspired and knew she could be competitive in the field. Rounding out the podium was Egger’s teammate Victoria Oliver in third, 0.71 seconds behind. Macuga finished in 12th place. 

Panorama local and hometown hero Cassidy Gray placed sixth while teammate Sarah Bennett finished just 0.01 seconds behind in seventh. 

“Today I think all the Canadians showed we have really good speed and despite a few mistakes we still had some really strong results and I’m so proud of this team,” said Gray. “I felt really lucky to be able to race with my family and friends all here. Also was really cool to see the American team killing it, because these are the guys we’re always racing and training with.”

Saturday’s super-G run will count towards the super-G portion of the alpine combined on Sunday. Jemison recently won a NorAm alpine combined race and is in a good position for a second podium.
