The Austrian Ski Federation announced that 10 women will start for the host nation in the opening Audi FIS Alpine World Cup race of the season, a giant slalom scheduled for Oct. 24 in Soelden. Austria’s top female alpine skier Anna Fenninger suffered a season-ending injury during training on Wednesday and will not be able to defend her victory at the 2014 opener when she tied with American Mikaela Shiffrin.

However, the Austrians will be lead on Saturday by team veteran Eva-Maria Brem who finished third in the Soelden opener last year (behind the tie for first place) and second in the GS standings behind her teammate Fenninger. The 27-year-old is the only Austrian on the start list for the opening GS race who is ranked in the top 10 following the retirement of Kathrin Zettel at the end of last season.

Austrian women’s team starters in Soelden:

  • Eva-Maria Brem
  • Stephanie Brunner
  • Katharina Gallhuber
  • Ricarda Haaser
  • Cornelia Huetter
  • Elisabeth Kappaurer
  • Michaela Kirchgasser
  • Stephanie Resch
  • Ramona Siebenhofer
  • Katharina Truppe
