Hector will race WC finals after knee injury

Mar 15, 2022

According to a release from the Swedish Ski Association, Sara Hector will compete in World Cup finals despite a knee injury she sustained in the Are GS on Friday.

Hector pulled a ligament in her knee after skiing through a gate in the second run of that race. The injury was concerning enough that she did not partake in the slalom the following day.

Hector was in third place after the first run, putting her in a position to potentially secure the GS globe, before she made the mistake that took her out of the race.

Hector told the Swedish Ski association, “I felt quite immediately that there was something with the knee.”

In response, her trip to France was postponed several days while she stayed in Stockholm and received the appropriate diagnosis and treatment.

Her team doctor, Jokob Svanber, says “The supplementary survey gave a positive message. This is in line with what we saw first and we have ruled out any more serious injury so Sara will go down to France to compete.”

Despite the injury, Hector says, “I feel very positive. The knee has responded well to the treatment and I look forward to competing one more competition and doing my best.”

Hector is still at the top of the GS rankings with 533 cup points. She is followed by Tessa Worley with 517 points and Mikaela Shiffrin with 471 points.

The women’s World Cup final GS is scheduled to take place on Sunday, March 20.
