Position Summary

Killington Mountain School (KMS) seeks a Strength and Conditioning Coach to lead the design, implementation, and delivery of individualized athletic performance programming for student-athletes. Working closely with sport coaches, the Strength and Conditioning Coach develops year-round training programs that enhance athletic performance, reduce injury risk, and support long-term athlete development.

This is a highly hands-on role centered on designing and delivering daily physical preparation sessions, monitoring athlete progress, and managing return-to-performance programming for injured athletes. The Strength and Conditioning Coach works collaboratively with coaches, athletic trainers, medical providers, and families to ensure each student-athlete receives an integrated, individualized performance plan.

Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver individualized, sport-specific athletic performance programs for student-athletes across all sports.
  • Lead daily training sessions in partnership with sport coaches.
  • Monitor athlete progress through assessments, maintain performance data, and adjust programming to support long-term development.
  • Develop and oversee return-to-performance programs, modify training for injured athletes, and implement injury prevention strategies in collaboration with coaches, athletic trainers, physical therapists, and physicians.
  • Communicate regularly with coaches, families, and medical providers regarding athlete progress, readiness, and rehabilitation.
  • Collaborate with sport coaches to align physical preparation with technical and sport-specific training goals.
  • Manage the strength and conditioning facility, including scheduling, equipment, and maintaining a safe, organized training environment.
  • Foster positive relationships with student-athletes while modeling professionalism, accountability, and healthy habits.
  • Participate in the Faculty-on-Duty rotation and perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Sports Performance, or a related field is preferred.
  • Current certification through a nationally recognized strength and conditioning organization (CSCS strongly preferred; NSCA or USA Weightlifting certifications accepted) is preferred.
  • Experience designing and implementing athletic performance programs for high school, collegiate, or elite athletes.
  • Experience working with competitive skiers, snowboarders, cyclists, or other high-performance athletes is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated expertise in athlete monitoring, long-term athlete development, and return-to-performance programming.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to build collaborative relationships with coaches, medical professionals, student-athletes, and families.

Compensation and Benefits

This is a full-time, year-round, exempt position with benefits including a 401(k) retirement plan after one year of employment, health insurance, HSA, season pass to Killington/Pico, generous vacation and holiday PTO per the academic calendar, and facility access for meals and gym. Potential tuition remission for qualifying dependent children after one year of employment. Salary commensurate with experience.
