On Friday morning Austrian superstar Marcel Hirscher announced via Instagram that he will be traveling to Levi, Finland, to start in the 2017-18 World Cup season opening slalom on Sunday.

Hirscher has ben nursing a broken ankle suffered during slalom training in August and has previously said to the press that his return in Levi would only be possible “with a miracle.” A more realistic return would have been in Beaver Creek, Colo., at the end of the month.

Hirscher is a two-time winner in Levi and is the defending champion after taking last year’s race by a staggering 1.30 seconds.
