The 2025 FIS Alpine Junior World Ski Championships kicked off in Tarvisio, Italy, with the first official downhill training run and an opening ceremony. Athletes got their first look at the track ahead of tomorrow’s downhill race, where the first champions of the week will be crowned.

Swiss Men Lead, Mollin Fastest Among Women

Swiss skiers dominated the men’s downhill training run, finishing first and second, continuing their country’s success in speed events. The top North American was Jeremy Nolting of Steamboat Springs, Colorado, followed by Canada’s Sascha Gilbert.

On the women’s side, Allison Mollin of the Stifel U.S. Ski Team posted the fastest time. Canada’s Estelle Martin placed ninth, making her the second-fastest North American.

While training provides valuable preparation, tomorrow’s race will decide the Junior World Champions.

U.S. and Canada Set Their Downhill Lineups

The U.S. women entered two racers in the downhill: Mollin and Annika Hunt, daughter of coaching legend Jesse Hunt.

Canada’s women’s team includes Martin and Zoe Gray.

The U.S. men’s downhill lineup features Hunter Salani, Mattias Wilson, Reed Sawyer, Nolting, and Aksel Lindenmeyr.

Canada’s men’s squad comprises Oscar Park, Gered Thompson, Gilbert, Dylan Stevens, and William Steed.

Opening Ceremonies Mark the Official Start

The day concluded with the opening ceremony, officially launching a week of competition. Athletes from around the world gathered to celebrate the start of the championships, where they will battle across multiple disciplines for the title of Junior World Champion. Tomorrow’s downhill will set the first mark on the 2025 results sheet.
