LAHTI, Finland — Adam Malysz mastered the fluctuating winds Sunday to win a ski jumping World Cup event at the Lahti Ski Games and close in on overall leader Anders Jacobsen.
Malysz had jumps of 125 and 128 meters for 265.8 points. Andreas Kofler of Austria was second with 258.3 points, jumping 124 and 121.5 meters.
It was Malysz’ 33rd World Cup victory, equal with Jens Weissflog of Germany in second place all time. Matti Nykanen, a Finn who jumped in the 1980s, has 46 victories.
Martin Schmitt of Germany earned his first podium finish since 2002, jumping 121.5 and 124.4 meters for 255.7 points to edge Roar Ljokelsoy of Norway by 0.6 points for third place.
A number of top jumpers, including Jacobsen, were disrupted by a tail wind during the first round and failed to make the top 30 that advance to the second jump.
Jacobsen retained the overall lead with 1,087 points. Malysz is second with 953 points, followed by Austrian teenager Gregor Schlierenzauer with 915.
